The Office for Licensing and Inspection of Hemp (OLIC) of the Department of Agriculture (DA) of Puerto Rico has submitted the Puerto Rico State Plan entitled, Puerto Rico Department of Agriculture Hemp Program (PRDAHP) for review and approval by the U.S. Department Agriculture. In 2020, the plan was formally approved by USDA.

By March 1, 2020, the Puerto Rico Department of Agriculture, through the OLIC, had granted 65 Cultivation Licenses and 13 Manufacturing Licenses under the Hemp Research Pilot Projects program.

The DA and the OLIC estimates that approximately 10,000 acres can be planted and cultivated throughout the island.
